Antykwa Poltawskiego Typeface Specimen Booklet
The assignment was to find a typeface, research it and design a specimen typeface booklet. I was instantly intrigued by the Polish typeface Antykla Poltawskiego not only because of my Polish heritage but because of the beautiful design, especially the letter g which looks like a dragon's tail. I chose the colour palette red, black and white which represents the Polish flag. All the images are vintage photographs of Poland.
Fierce Queers magazine
I designed a magazine that celebrates Vancouver's queer folks and their passion for what they do . I personally interviewed four fabulous folks and learned more about who they are and what kind of work they do in the community. Some of the images are my own photography and some have been used from pexels. I wanted to use bright colours in the layout to represent the bright minds of these spectacular individuals and their pride in being queer, trans, femme and non-binary.
Vidok Magazine
Vidok (pronounced Veedok; actual spelling in Polish is "widok") Magazine is about connecting people, places, stories and cultures on an intimate level globally through a non-western lens. This issue focuses on a small town in central Poland called Tomaszow Mazowiecki. Poland is known for its folk crafts, which are represented on the cover, showcasing an iconic Polish scarf with its vibrant colours and floral designs. Folk patterns, such as those seen on the scarf, are unique to each region. A scarf is therefore valued for more than its aesthetic beauty, conveying a sense of place and identity. I used the scarf against the white background to accentuate the vibrancy of the colors and the detail of the floral design. The scarf is floating as if on the body of a ghost. This is chosen on purpose. As a Polish woman who left Poland as a refugee at a young age, it represents my feelings of rediscovering myself in this country I once called home. The main feature of the magazine is about my visit to my home town, Tomaszow Mazowiecki.
